IT Strategy
You have a business strategy, but does your IT strategy support your business goals?
Why do you need an IT strategy?
Successful businesses are able to marshal all their resources and ensure they are all coordinated and aiming at the same goals. Now that IT forms such a vital part of all businesses, it is important that your IT supports those same goals. Some of the top benefits of creating a sound IT strategy are:
- Make sure your IT systems will support your customer growth plans.
- Ensure your IT team are focused on the projects that will help your business succeed.
- Be confident about your technology choices to avoid early replacement of hardware or redevelopment of software.
- Have well understood risk profiles to avoid unplanned outages.
- Chose appropriate staffing levels to support your customers and your employees.
What we do?
Our objective is to create an IT strategy that is tailored to your business and supports all your business objectives and goals. To do this we develop an engagement plan to suit your individual needs. However, the key parts of the process often include the following steps:
Review stage
- Review the overall business strategy. This might typically include
- Vision (where we want to get to)
- Mission (how you intend to get there)
- Goals (specific milestones and targets you have set)
- What does the business expect from IT?
- What are the current IT capabilities?
- What existing IT strategy is in place?
Strategy development
- Use modelling tools such as SWOT and PEST
- Develop a Vision for IT i.e. where we want IT to be.
- Develop a Mission for IT i.e. how we intend to get there.
- Develop specific Goals for IT.
- Develop specific Metrics to allow us to track improvement and performance towards the goals.
Strategic alignment
- Test the IT strategy against the Business strategy using the Strategic Alignment Model toolkit
- Ensure IT strategy is appropriate for the IT team to implement
- Ensure implementation of such a strategy is cost effective
- If necessary update/modify the strategy and loop through alignment again
